The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world. The Eudora Welty Foundation is the state’s affiliate for the writing awards, working in partnership with the Eudora Welty House, a museum of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. The Mississippi Museum of Art is the affiliate for the Scholastic art awards. Through the awards, students receive opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships.
On April 9, 2017, Felicity Browning of Colmer Middle School was awarded a silver key in the categories of Personal Essay/Memoir and Science Fiction/ Fantasy. Felicity earned this prestigious award out 781 other entries. We are very proud of Felicity and the hard work she has put into this achievement!
The Colmer Middle School Forensics Team made a clean sweep at the N.R. Burger Forensics Hub City Invitational in Hattiesburg, MS. The CMS Forensics Team competed against several schools throughout the region in Public Forum Debate placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
Public Forum Debate Team: Carly Charbonnet and Carolyn Facio placed 3rd overall.
Public Forum Debate Team: Folsom Berry and Maria Ramirez placed 2nd overall.
Public Forum Debate Team: Caroline Floyd and Stanley Madison placed 1st overall.

Tapestry is Superior!! Congratulations to Colmer Middle School Girls' Ensemble, “Tapestry” who won a superior rating in performance and an excellent rating in sight reading at State Choral Festival at Pearl High School. Members of the group are Baleigh Andrews, Tori Daniels, Zyneshia Harvey, Gabrielle Johnson, Lizamarie Martinez, Valeria Martinez Rivera, Maria Ramirez Perez, Kennedy Robinson, Tyler Smith, and Tameya Summers. We are so proud of these eighth grade students and their Choral Director, Alta Wood!
